A Message From the Director:

"Greetings! My name is Derek Magee, and I have the distinct honor of being the instrumental music director at Yorba Linda Middle School. Our program features the full range of instruments, ensembles, and activities that exist under the umbrella of western music traditions, and there is a place for all students here regardless of where their interests lie. I am a staunch believer in music education and the positive effects that it has on students, both musically and otherwise. I see myself as a teacher of students before I am a teacher of music, and my aim is to help students grow and see their full potential through participation in music performance. Regardless of the music class that students are enrolled in, they will have the opportunity to make lifelong friends, build confidence in their abilities, discover their inherent creativity, examine the processes of learning and acquiring skills, and develop habits for success. In learning to demonstrate excellence in music performance, it is my belief that students will learn to demonstrate that same excellence in all aspects of and throughout their lives.
